HistoryEdit

Scott completed the piece on July 17, 2014 and uploaded it to his DeviantART page the same day. It was done as an entry in a contest on DeviantART.

On September 13, the winners were announced. The Time Machine won 2nd place in the Judges Vote section of the contest. (Link: Contest 33 - Books into Disney Movies)

Subject and titleEdit

This is one of two separate entries in the "Books into Disney Movies" contest at the Disney-Club at DeviantART. The purpose of the contest was to create a movie poster depicting a book as if Disney had made it into a movie. Following is the description Scott listed on the artwork's DeviantART page:

"The Time Machine" is a novel by H.G. Wells and one of my favorite books of all time, so I couldn't resist doing this for the contest. It starts in the Victorian era (around 1899) where an inventor builds a machine that allows him to travel through the 4th dimension...time. Fast forwarding through time, he ends up 800,000 years in the future! In this dystopian future, the humans have evolved into two separate races, the surface-dwelling Eloi and the subterranean Morlocks. While learning of the Eloi society, the sneaky and scary Morlocks steal his time machine...then the REAL adventure begins.

Characters in the poster I've created (left to right):

  • The Time Traveler - The main character's actual name is never mentioned in the book. He's simply referred to as the "Time Traveler". He's the young inventor from Victorian England.
  • Weena - She's the adventurous Eloi, and love interest for the Time Traveler.
  • Dox - Short for "Paradox", this little character I created myself and DOES NOT appear in the book. (I figure all Disney animated features need a silly "comic relief" character.) He's a robot that the Time Traveler invented that happens to travel with him to the future.
  • The Morlocks - The monstrous creatures in the background are the "enemies" in the book.

The entire "movie poster" was drawn by me, except the Disney logo and the text I used for the title (the font is called "Terran").

I'm thinking some day I may animate this myself, or illustrate it in comic book form. I don't know. Hope you like!

MediaEdit

Scott started out with a pencil drawing, then inked the final line work. He then scanned the drawing to color it digitally.
